Offering American Red Cross Swim Lessons

Parent & Child Aquatics

Developed for children 6 months to 2 years of age, American Red Cross Parent and Child Aquatics builds swimming

readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Parents and children participate in several guided practice sessions that

help children learn elementary skills, including water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater

exploration and more.

Preschool Aquatics

Developed for children 3 to 5 years of age, American Red Cross Parent and Child Aquatics is designed to give young

children a positive, developmentally appropriate aquatic learning experience while building basic skills to begin

learning rudimentary propulsive swimming movements.

  • Preschool Aquatics Level 1: Purpose: The objectives of level 1 are to learn the most elementary aquatic skills, which children continue to build on as they progress through the Preschool Aquatics and Learn-to-Swim levels. At this first level, children start developing good attitudes and safe practice around the water.
  • Preschool Aquatics Level 2: Purpose: The objectives of this level are to build on the basic aquatic skills learned in Level 1 and give children further success with fundamental aquatic skills performed to a slightly more advanced degree than at Level 1. Most skills in this level are performed with assistance. This level marks the beginning of independent aquatic locomotion skills. Children continue to explore using simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to gain more proficiency for future strokes. Level 2 also adds to the self-help and basic rescue skills introduced in Level 1.
  • Preschool Aquatics Level 3: Purpose: The objectives of this level are to coordinate arm and leg movements and improve upon skills learned in Preschool Levels 1 and 2. Most skills in this level are performed with assistance. This level builds on previous knowledge of arm and leg motions, and help students put the stroke together as a whole. In this level students begin to work on swimming more independently with less support than in Preschool Level 2.

Learn-to-Swim

Our Learn-to-Swim program for children ages 6 to 12 is designed to build skills step by step. By allowing students to master one skill before moving on to the next, our swim classes help kids gain confidence in the water with every lesson.

During their swim lessons, children will spend time on the following six levels:

  • Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills: Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it.
  • Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills: Children will learn basic propulsive skills on the front and back.
  • Level 3: Stroke Development: Additional guided practice builds on skills learned in levels 1 & 2 will help students achieve water competency.
  • Level 4: Stroke Improvement: Kids will gain confidence during swim lessons, improve their strokes and gain additional aquatic skills.
  • Level 5: Stroke Refinement: Guidance allows kids to refine their strokes and become more efficient swimmers.
  • Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency: Students will learn to swim with ease and efficiency and gain the ability to swim smoothly over greater distances. Swimmers will also have the option to participate in more advanced courses.

Adult Lessons

Red Cross Adult Swim allows swimmers to progress at their own pace, mastering one set of skills before moving on to the next. Swim lessons for adults are available in the following three levels, developed to meet the needs of adult learners:

  •  Learning the Basics: Earn basic swimming strokes and skills needed to become water competent, which is a combination of knowing water safety, having swimming skills and knowing how to help others in a water emergency.
  •  Improving Skills and Swimming Strokes: Participants will gain proficiency in basic aquatic skills and the six basic swimming strokes.
  • Swimming for Fitness: Participants will learn to refine their front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke and turns to build endurance.

Group Lessons

We conduct our group lessons in small classes with a maximum of four swimmers. The cost for group lessons is $150 per swimmer for an eight-lesson package. Please note that we do not offer make-up days or refunds, so it is essential to ensure you can attend every class before registration. Group lessons cater to all skill levels, from six months to adults. A minimum of two swimmers is required to form a group lesson; otherwise, swimmers will be transferred to private lessons. Full payment must be made prior to adding the swimmer to the schedule. Each lesson is 30 minutes in duration.

Private Lessons

We provide private swim lessons at our facility or at your preferred location, subject to approval. Private swim lessons offer customized, one-on-one instruction tailored to individual skill levels, ranging from beginners to advanced, and catering to ages six months to adults.
